Music, videos?

MTV has launched a web site archive of ALL their videos. ALL. THEIR. VIDEOS. Oh crap. Takes me back to the early 80s when they launched and were the biggest thing ever for a while.

Here is my favorite video, or rather, one of my faves. New Order are like scientists, cooking up this song in the studio so intently they look bored.

So here's an inspirational quote for you....

"...the lack of significant opportunities on the West Coast for the support and presentation of art music made composers...more likely to embrace underground, experimental aesthetics. Since the audience was so diffuse, and opportunities for careers so futile, why not spend one's efforts following the potential of fantastic ideas, rather than worrying about the practical applications of those ideas...?"

--Chris Brown, in "At a distance: precursers to art and activism on the internet."

Seems like this might be true for creativity in general, eh?

Two things in the media!

Last night, Dr. Doreen Granpeesheh was on KOCE here in Los Angeles, talking about her work at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders and the documentary "Recovered, Journeys through the Autism Spectrum and Back" that she and Michele Jaquis made together. They even showed a clip from "Recovered..." - it was so strange to see Michele's work on the television, and to hear me and Mike's music on it. Surreal.

Also! Today Italian design website Europaconcorsi published the Liner competition entry that I worked on at PMA. Check out the project on their site, as well as some of the other entries that are online so far.

New Texas

Is Alaska the new Texas?

Josh isn't going to like that.

Wiretap Follies

My new favorite thing to read on the web.. Wiretap Follies by the supreme champion of bitter online humor, Joshua Allen.

"In January 2007

I went into a bar and tried out my new pickup line:

“Pretty mama, I’m gonna assassinate that bush tonight.”

The government tapped my phone for a year.

These are the transcripts."

It updates on some sort of schedule I have yet to figure out, so read the ones up so far and check back often.

hey, remember that high school band me and tom d. had? i wrote a song called "song 242" and tom made me change, b/c it was too close to front 242.

what do you think that has to do with what you wrote just now?

I think that it means if you had named the song "The Boy With The Arab Strap" then Tom would have been all for it. Of course I remember the Clock-Tocks.. they played at my graduation party! I have photos somewhere.

Upload Download Perform .net

Adam Overton's new website/art project, Upload Download Perform .net is a free wiki for performance artists. Users can create a profile; upload their performance scores; download other people's scores; and add notes and photos and performance dates.

The site just went public, and already there are almost 400 scores on it. (Including 4 new scores from yours truly, here.)

It's an amazing site. Take a look.

Debates

"What we gotta do, my friends, we gotta sit down, across the table... with Tip O'Neil. I've been there. I'll reach across the aisle, Challenged my own party, I have. I reached across, Tip O'Neil. My friends. I've been unpopular with my own party."

Can't... take... the... nonsense...

Also.

"Is Health Care a right or responsibility?"

McCain: Responsibility.

Obama: Right.

I give Obama 100 points right there.
